Perú - a study in contrasts
Peru is on virtually every traveler's "must-see" list, and for good reason. An abundance of nature, culture, history and activity make it the ideal destination for individuals and families alike.
Lima continues to reign as the culinary capital of South America, with several restaurants ranked in the world's Top 20. From the manicured parks and trendy restaurants of Miraflores to the the bohemian chic galleries of Barranco, Lima is well worth a stop before venturing onward.
Peru’s celebrated Incan heritage is front and center throughout the Sacred Valley, Cuzco and Machu Picchu. Continue a bit further afield to explore Lake Titicaca and the highest navigable body of water in the world and the indigenous communities living on floating reed islands. Delving still deeper, you can travel north to the center of pre-Incan civilizations and explore ancient archeological sites of Sipán and Chan Chan, or head south to Nazca to see the mysterious geoglyphs carved into the desert sands.
Nature enthusiasts can venture deep into the Amazon. In far northeast explore the Pacaya Samiria Reserve from the comfort of luxury riverboats, or delve into the lush Tambopata Nature Reserve in the southeast and explore the rainforest from one of several remote lodges.

Lima - The culinary capital of South America
Fine Dining
Gastón Acurio put Lima on the culinary map with his eponymous Astrid Y Gaston restaurant and elevated Peruvian cuisine to the world’s attention in 1994. Since then, an entirely new generation of chefs blazed new trails, such as Virgilio Martinez at Central and Mitsuharu Tsumura at Maido, now ranked #1 and #6 in the 2024 World’s Best 50 Restaurants. A total of four restaurants in Lima have made it into the World’s Best 50.
Beyond world-class cuisine, visitors to Lima will have an opportunity to explore colonial heritage and one of the finest collections of pre-Columbian art at the incomparable Larco Museum.
When not exploring the city, guests will enjoy impeccable hotels selected for their unsurpassed hospitality and comfort.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas
Often overlooked in the rush to get to Machu Picchu, the Urubamba Valley is a wealth of Incan heritage, traditions, and important archeological sites, from Pisac at the southern entrance to the valley to Ollantaytambo at the northern end. Between them, indigenous villagers continue to farm the land and weave traditional cloth using methods largely unchanged from Incan times.
Accommodations include a selection of luxury lodges that provide a comfortable base from which to explore the entire valley.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu
Little in life is as moving as sitting quietly, alone, watching the warm curtain of morning light pushing clouds away from two venerable mountains—Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu. As the outlines of ancient structures loom in and out of the mist, you can slowly discern the silent ruins of the "lost city".
Getting to and from Machu Picchu is accomplished by train. There are multiple services per day, including the Vistadome and the Hiram Bingham luxury train.
Guests will enjoy a guided tour of the citadel, the option to climb either Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountains or walk to the Sun Gate or Inca Bridge.
Pre-Incan Coastal Cultures
The North Coast - an archeological treasure trove
On the dry North coast lie the pre-Columbian sites of the Moche, Chimú and Lambayeque cultures. Visit the Tomb of the Lord of Sipán, the pyramids of Túcume and Huacas del Sol y del La Luna. Explore the vast Chimú adobe complex of Chan Chan, the largest urban center in all of Pre-Columbian America and a UNESCO World Heritage site. To learn of modern-day cultures, wander through a local traditional healer's market, inspecting the varied offerings. Witness a demonstration of the fabled Peruvian Paso horses, world-renowned for their unique, smooth gate.
The South Coast - Pisco, the Nazca Lines, and more
Head south of Lima to learn about the Paracas, Ica and Nazca cultures which flourished in the arid coastal regions south of Lima, now the center of Peru's wine production. Fly over the Nazca lines which have puzzled for generations. Make your own analysis over pisco or wine, as you explore Peru's southern coastal desert.
